Physical Therapy and Exercise
The body likes movement! Motion is one of the keys to successful recovery from many injuries and surgeries and is essential in the management of chronic pain. Pain often results in a tendency to withdraw from even simple activities of daily living such as walking. This immobility can worsen pain and the inability to participate in necessary activities like work and pleasurable activities takes an emotional toll. Regaining mobility and function are two of the most important goals of managing pain. We are committed to working with physicians who specialize in physical medicine and rehabilitation as well as with physical therapists to assist in this critical component of care. While sessions of physical therapy with a trained specialist are important, they are often just a start. Many of the goals of physical therapy are not reached for months. Physical therapy often attempts to bring about a permanent lifestyle change. Patient involvement and commitment is the key to success.
